Tour Day 1 Recap: Melody Inn (Indianapolis, IN) 2.25.2011

Well we all survived day one of the tour. Still working out how we're packing the van at the end of each night and pooping in the woods, but so far so good. Only one casuality so far...and it was the keyboard on our computer. Something fell on it during our set.

Oh well I guess it builds character.

The show was a blast. We had two bands drop at the last minute, but everything worked out. Huge props to Phyllis who stepped up and played a great set to open the show.

Big thanks to all or Bloomington and Indy fans who came out to see us last night, espeically to Kris Murphy who joined us on stage for Long Neck Deep Curves to play some mean blues harp as you can see in the pic at the top of the page.

Also, I have to apologize for my lack of tweeting and picture posting thus far on the tour. My phone has lost the ability to hold a charge for more than 2 mins at a time (counting on the Sprint store folks in Bloomington, IN right now to set me up with a new one.... come on insurance protection plan..I know I pay $7 a month for you for some reason...)

If I had a chance I would have tweeted some pics of a lot of the cool record stores we checked out in Broad Ripple and downtown Indy. If you ever get a chance stop into Indy CD and Vinyl in Broad Ripple and make sure to say high to Annie behind the counter. Super cool place, super nice people, and apparently we just missed the guys from Cage the Elephant who were playing next door at the Vogue.

Anyway, it's time to go. Tony is getting stiff and he has asked me to show him some neck stretches. I will use all my Tony Horton learnings to help him out. Then it's off to Rhino's in Bloomington!

Vollrath (Indianapolis, IN) - 3/6/2010

Trip to Vollrath in Indy seems to get shorter every time.  I literally pointed the car towards the highway, closed my eyes, and we were there in no time.

We all woke up with some stiffness, so stretching was essential.  This was kind of creepy, but effective

Maybe...

Had tons of fun playing here like we always do...next to Howards Club H in Bowling Green, this has to be one of the loudest stages in the Midwest.  Here's a clip of Long Neck Deep Curves...first song in the set so got a good view before the crowd came swarming the stage ;)

We were joined again by Kris Murphy on the harmonica, always a treat to jam with him.

We rocked and rocked and then rocked some more...

Then some more stretching

Then some more rocking.

We rocked into the early hours until Tony got sleepy...

A few shots later and he was back in business, hanging with some fans after the show.

Then it was off the after party.  Here's the Slippery Noodle in downtown Indy, awesome blues bar, I got there just as the band was finishing up, but heard they were the good times.

We hung out there until they refused to serve us any longer,.then to Steak and Shake for burgers and milk shakes.  Then back to the hotel for cards and sleep...11AM always comes earlier than you think its going to.

Melody Inn (Indianapolis, IN) - 1/8/2010

Ok so I’m really late with show posts.  To get you up to speed, we left off on a cold and blistery night in early January at the Melody Inn in Indianapolis. I think we got hit by some skank asleep at the wheel the last time we went there so not getting in an accident with a sleeping person was a definite improvement. Good times.

The show was fun.  We rocked out with some great bands, re-united with some distant family, and drank with a Tuskan Raider.  Good times were sploodging all over the place, we even jammed on harmonicas with one of our good friends and fans Kris Murphy (dinosaur puke dude, from several blogs back).

Since I didn't get any pictures, I'll leave you with a tribute to Canada to show my gratitude to this beautiful country for letting the world Olympicize all over it.

Vollrath Tavern (Indianapolis, IN) 11/28/2009

This was just an old fashion barn burner. What can I say we rocked the place until we had bruises on our knees and whiskey in our pubes.

AS USUAL the ladies tried to rip my clothes off after the show.

These lasses would not take no for an answer and didn’t stop until my underwear was hanging from the ceiling.

Once the females had their fill, I enjoyed a great set by a cool band out of Columbus called The Receiver (http://www.myspace.com/thereceiver) check them out if get a chance.

We were super pumped to hang out with some lndy fans as we have not been in the area since May.

Kris here is awesome. We drank to the good times and puking like dinosaurs. If you’ve read past posts you know what he’s talking about.

With many drinks comes insatiable hunger, so pizza was shared.

Mike was hungriest, so we let him take down the most.

In all, Indy was fun, can’t wait to come back to Melody Inn in Indy on Jan 8!

Melody Inn (Indianapolis, IN) 5/31/2009

This one started out with a bang… literally.. we got rear-ended less than 2 miles out of Chicago. Some beyatch claimed she fell asleep at the wheel cause she had been driving since Joliet…wow what is that 20 miles or something how can you stand to be in the car that long without going to sleep????

Wasn’t terrible…french fries went everywhere, and the back bumper got pushed down a bit…but its cool, we slapped her ugly mug and got back on the road.

When we pulled up to Melody Inn in Indianapolis a few hours later we were pleasantly surprised by the funkiness of the décor. It was nice to land in a legit rock club.’ This place is/was the shit.

The bathroom’s were even shittier and by shittier I mean better of course. Each tile had something profound drawn on it…this one inspired me to run for office.

We had a good set at Melody Inn. We were on our own for this one so nobody got shots of our performance, however, we did have the pleasure of getting to watch one of the craziest bands I’ve ever seen kicking around the Midwest, the Trampskirts (http://www.myspace.com/trampskirts).

Ashley, the lead singer, looked like a member of the Lizzies from the Warriors (as Mike aptly put it).  She had a six pack that made me feel bad about myself.

The show was fun we danced, we cried, we saw a dude make out with a girl and then get punched by his wife. We packed up and made the four hour drive home that night.

Lizards (Indianapolis, IN) 5/9/2009

Well we pushed through the pain and liters of blood loss, and enjoyed some rocking tunes by Civilian (www.myspace.com/civilian2006) once our set was over. Hello to Paul if you're reading, tell your Russian mail order bride hello for us too.

All in all it was awesome night and we left with much more than we came with.

After we loaded out, we grabbed our stash and booked it to a hotel.

Mike and Tony took the condom....Taz was sad :(
